366 Days of Gratitude and Good Things: Day 69

My first year at Burning Man, I convinced myself I’d keep a journal, or at least make notes, and then write up a blog post or three about my experiences.

Didn’t happen. When I thought about it, I tended to be in the middle of something else, and when I wasn’t actually doing something/going somewhere, it never occurred to me that hey! Now would be a good time to make some notes! So of course I planned to make up for lost time last year and absolutely take loads of photos and get out my journal and…

That didn’t happen either.

But today, you get a Burning Man post about a small thing from the outside that meant a whole lot more on the inside.

Namely and to wit, as one of my friends called it when I told her about it at Thanksgiving, the P2K Project. P2K standing for Permission to Kiss.  😉

366 Days of Gratitude and Good Things: Day 62

I’ve had a low-grade headache for several hours. Which annoys me, as I didn’t get headaches for a very long time. I think I’m okay, hydration-wise, and my sinuses are fine, so it’s probably job stress. Namely and to wit, one particular vendor keeps putting us on credit hold — without telling me (as the person who processes the invoices for payment), and only mentioning it to our buyers when they ask when their order will ship, or why it hasn’t already.

And I’ve been dealing with the same damned situation, with only slight variations, for most of this month.

No wonder I have a headache.  ***rolls eyes***

On the other hand, my supervisors approved my request for Burning Man vacation time today — yay!

Now if the org (that is, the Burning Man organization) can only get Nevada to see sense about the 9 percent tax they (that is, the state) want to slap on tickets — as in, no, Burning Man is not the equivalent of a concert because no one is paying anyone to play music or do DJ sets or create art, the org provides the location and some infrastructure (and contracts for the porta potties), so the tax shouldn’t apply to this event. It’s apparently a rather slapdash regulation, at least as regards the sorts of events it applies to, and some folks think the Burn was specifically targeted, but the org doesn’t think so, which is why they’re attempting to work with the state on it.

Oh, but there have been so many…interesting suggestions as to what the org should do: leave Nevada and move to Location X (variously including Utah and some ghost town in California); buy land (again with the ghost town idea); don’t have the event this year and see how much the state likes the lost revenue…

***sound of needle scratching across a record***

That last one? I do not like this, Sam I Am!

Instead, I’ll keep my fingers crossed and keep throwing money at my vacation fund.

Because being prepared is a good thing.

And now I think I’ll take an aspirin and go to bed…

366 Days of Gratitude and Good Things: Day 29

In honor of tonight’s glorious full moon, I think I’m going to write about the Black Rock Observatory. (I know, it’s an FB link. I’ll put one to the last completed crowdfunding campaign at the end, but I didn’t want y’all to think I was directing you to donate. Yet.  😉  When the next crowdfunding goes live, though, I might bring it to your attention…)

At any rate, some of you may be wondering what the Black Rock Observatory (hereinafter BRO) is, and what does it want?
